Follow-up at 1 year

Period of Follow-up at 1 Year

The first stage of the 1-year follow-up began in April 2012.

This stage includes all families whose child was discharged alive from the neonatology department, who were informed of the methods of follow-up during their child's hospitalization in the neonatology department, and who did not explicitly refuse to participate in the follow-up.

  Number of subjects

Of the 4807 children eligible for follow-up, 93% of the families agreed to participate: 4290 children are therefore included in this stage.
Among them, 3841 responded to the questionnaire.

Data Collected

A self-administered questionnaire was sent to parents when the child reached the age of 1 year, seeking information about the child and the family.

The information about the children covers:

  • Their medical management since discharge (new hospitalizations, consultations, vaccinations, treatments, etc.)
  • Their growth
  • Their health status
  • Their development
  • Their sleep
  • Their food
  • Their childcare arrangements.

We are also interested in the mother's physical and emotional health.

Finally, to understand the child's environment better, we inquire about the family situation and the parents' work situation.

Methods of Collection

Around the child's first birthday, the regional coordinator sent a questionnaire to the parents. The parents could complete the questionnaire on line, by the internet, using access codes (login /password), or on paper, using the child's health record booklet. The access codes are sent to the parents by e-mail and/or by mail.

Current status

We have received 3820 first-year questionnaires. Parents filled out one third of the questionnaires online.
